A  better alternative to calibration gas cylinders

What is ACD Calibration Gas?

Simply put, Advanced Calibration Designs are gas calibration devices that are superior to the previous approaches to calibrating gas detection monitors for the health and safety industries.


Advanced Calibration Designs exceed the limitations of all previous forms of calibrating gas monitors. They do this through Integrated and Expandable products that provide the backbone of the new era in calibration gas standards.

Economical Gas Standards

Historically, calibration gas came in the form of cylinders, which have severe limitations.  Cylinders of calibration gas are most often filled almost entirely with air, which makes them extremely inefficient.  99.999% of a 10 PPM Cylinder of any gas is simply clean dry air. ACD uses the background air at the calibration point to blend with the desired gas which provides enormous advantages.

A 58-liter cylinder provides 58 minutes of calibration gas flowing at 1 liter per minute (roughly 1 hour). A single ACD calibration source provides up to 100 times that much gas! 100 hours of calibration gas at the same flow rate. This translates to a rough cost (depending on the gas needed) of approximately $300 per hour when getting your calibration gas in cylinders. Conversely, the cost of 1 ACD 100 hour source is $13.25 per hour of calibration!


Calibration Gas On-Demand

ACD products generate the gas on demand rather than storing it.  This too has many advantages over the old approaches. Since there is no gas present until the user requests it and the gas is never under pressure, ACD products are safe for air transport.  They also do not deteriorate over time. It is not uncommon for customers to use the same calibration source for five, 10 or even 15 years of calibration.

On demand generation of the calibration gas allows a single calibration source to generate selectable concentrations. Cylinders are a single fixed concentration. Most ACD generating sources can provide selectable concentrations of between 0.25 and 125 parts per million. In addition to this, the flow rate can be varied between 0.2 and 1.0 liters per minute using the internal pump. On demand type calibrations of sample drawing gas detectors can also be accommodated by use of the internal mass flow sensor.


Expandable Capabilities for Gas Monitor Calibration

The basic technology of Advanced Calibration Designs results in all the advantages previously listed. ACD took these advantages one step further. We at ACD feel that Advanced Calibration Designs should also be provided for on the fly interchangeability of gas source modules with any instrument.


Our products are integrated and expandable. With a single hand-held product smaller than a single 58 liter cylinder, the end user can have up to 10 different calibration gases and literally hundreds of hours of calibration gas at his disposal. Best yet, your service technician can get on a plane with a single checked bag and be on site ready to calibrate gas monitors.


Innovative Gas Monitor Calibration

Advanced Calibration Design means designs that continue to evolve and expand for the future needs of the industry.  At ACD we continue to work toward adding gas sources to our existing line of instruments. As these sources become available, they too will be interchangeable with the instruments you already have. ACD is working to provide calibration gas for any manufacturer’s instruments at any flow requirement or concentration required. All selectable by the end user at the point of calibration.
